Who Should Play George Michael in the Arrested Development Movie?
This could be very bad. What if they make the Arrested Development movie but Michael Cera doesn’t do it. I find it hard to believe that he wouldn’t but that is the rumors going around. I don’t want to see an episode without George Michael Bluth. He is one of my favorites. Here are some quote from the cast about it. What do you think?
“Yes, it’s a go,” an Arrested castmember who asked not to be named tells me. “We’re all very excited. And it will happen with or without the holdout.”
Wait a minute…The holdout? Yes, I’m also told exclusively by multiple sources that one of the show’s original castmembers has not signed on to the movie…
“Yeah, [he or she] might not do it,” an actor says of this costar. “However, I do know that we will do the project with or without [him or her].”
Add that to this September quote from Michael Cera…
“I don’t think I would want to see a movie of the series if I was a fan anyways…and I don’t really see a need for it if you can get the three seasons on DVD.”

I find it very hard to believe that Michael Cera would not sign on… He’s probably just joking. Gob forbid films about iPod/burned CD mixtapes is making him snub his face at George Michael Bluth… Anyhow, I hope he has signed on by now and that they’re waiting on another cast member’s “hold out.”
But then again, who wants anyone else to be absent from the film? Noooo!

Snub his face… His nose, I mean. His freaking nose.

I’m convinced that this all is just a big joke to heighten up the anticipation for this movie. I kinda think all of these rumours are no longer true because I think they took it to far (if this is in fact a rumour.)

Yeah, a movie without him would be crazy. I can’t think of another actor that has his presence. He’s such an odd, unique character.

IMO, I think this is just a big marketing push/ploy. Cera’s in; he has to be in.
*Crosses Fingers*

I think they should kill him off if he won’t commit. Every time his name’s mentioned they could turn to the camera and say “George Michael’s dead to me!” - it would be kinda funny then.

I can’t picture an Arrested Development movie without Michael Cera as George Michael. Getting someone else to play the role would be a huge mistake. I’d almost rather not have a movie at all, in that case.
But, I think Travis’ suggestion is pretty hilarious, and could actually work, if needed.

It’s a great chance for a meta-joke. Get Ellen Page or Jonah Hill to stop by to see if George Michael is around. Michael could continually say, “Man, you raise a kid and then he never visits. It’s like he’s ashamed of us or something. Well, I’m ashamed of us, too, but I’m here. Oh, God, I’m here.”

send George Michael to college, all we need is a mention of him. have him send letters or something… its not that hard to kill off a character.

The more I read these comments and the more I think about it, it really would be easy to put him on a bus and even make a few great meta-jokes about the situation.

No way guys - the movie needs him. There’s so much interaction between Michael and GM that is crucial to the overall effect.
