When I asked Michael if he thought the “Arrested Development” movie would ever happen, his response was:

“I think it will. Yeah. I don’t see why it wouldn’t. I don’t think it will happen for awhile.”

I then said a lot of the cast members have said Mitch is working on the script and maybe you’d be shooting later this year.

Michael then replied, “But there is no rush. I think he should take his time. I know it means a lot to Mitch. There is no rush, really. I don’t think.”

So if you were excited the film would be going in front of the cameras sometime soon, it’s probably time to extinguish that dream. As a huge fan of the show, I’m more than happy to wait for writer/director Mitch Hurwitz to get it right. I just hope it’ll eventually happen.

Accoring to http://www.zap2it.com/ the rumor that I help spread today about the Arrested Development Movie Filming is not true. The rumor started at onlocationvacations.com and I posted it on this site and posted it on twitter which spread like wild fire. I hate to be the one to say this but it was just a rumor, but read the excerpt from http://www.zap2it.com/:

Rumors that the “Arrested Development” movie has begun filming near Madison Square Park in New York City today are starting to spread online.

The big news — which I believe can be traced back to the movie set-stalking site onlocationvacations.com — is not true though, according to a source close to the whole “AD” operation.

“There’s not even a script yet,” the insider told me this morning.

So that’s the bad news.

The good news is that my source used the word “yet.”

Sweet.

Mitch Hurwitz’s new show “Sit Down, Shut Up” debut last sunday on Fox. It got terrible ratings. Why? Because Fox doesn’t know how to promote thier shows. This is the same reason why Arrested Development was cancelled, because it had poor ratings. But now that Arrested Development is running on G4, it’s been getting a huge following and people now realize how brilliant and funny the show was and were sorry they missed it while it aired on Fox.

So you better fucking apologize for cancelling Arrested Development, but better yet, make it up to us by financing the Arrested Development Movie instead of a cartoon to rival Family Guy, which you know it can’t do.

When MTV News caught up with Michael Cera in January, the actor labeled the long-gestating “Arrested Development” film as “more hypothetical than people think.” His co-star Will Arnett apparently agrees.

“There’s no script as of right now, but it’s something that Mitch [Hurwitz] is actively working and getting ready for, and we’re hoping to start shooting by the end of the year,” he told us. “I know that’s one of the goals. There are a lot of pieces that have to come together. There are what, like, nine cast members plus various other people like Mitch and Ron Howard, and everybody kind of has to get their brain around this one delicious soufflé.”

Arnett also laughed at the media’s obsession with the idea of a Bluth family reunion on the bigscreen. “God, I’ve never known a movie who’s every step of development has been as closely followed. This movie’s gonna be such a disaster,” joked the actor, who plays devious magician Gob.

“That’s my hope, by the way,” he continued. “Secretly, I want it to be so bad just to be like ‘ya see?’ I don’t really. Sorry, I take that back.” Asked where he’d like to see his character up to in a feature film, Arnett insisted “Don’t leave it up to my imagination, because it will go to Cuckootown really fast.”

Speaking of which, Arnett revealed that the only project he is actively writing right now (with Hurwitz) is a new live-action half-hour show for Fox. “It’s a little too early to comment on what it’s about but it might delve into Cuckoodom a little bit.”

Arnett will return to animation not once but twice more this year. He’ll voice a character on Hurwitz’s new animated Fox show, “Sit Down Shut Up,” which debuts on April 19, and he’ll play a live-action FBI agent this summer in Disney’s animated film “G-Force.”

He’ll also appear opposite Kristen Bell in another Disney project, “When in Rome.”

Are you counting down the hours to an “Arrested Development” film? Or should they leave well enough alone?

It’s always hard being the first panel of any comic convention, but WonderCon kicked off with a full room, as fans of Mitch Hurwitz’s Emmy-winning show “Arrested Development” were given a chance to see a first taste of his new animated show “Sit Down, Shut Up,” which will premiere on FOX at 8:30 PM on April 19. Before they went to questions from the audience, the moderator asked about the much-anticipated movie based on “Arrested Development” that has been discussed a lot both by Hurwitz and the cast of the show.

Before Hurwitz could give a serious response, Will Arnett, who provides one of the voices for the new show, joked, “We are dangerously close to confirming that? we have read the rumors on the internet.”

“Here’s what’s going on with the movie,” Hurwitz told the audience of his fans. “Everyone goes off and has careers and that kind of thing, so it’s been a little challenging to schedule everybody together, but everyone who has agreed to make this movie has agreed to make this movie, and we’re going to make the movie. I haven’t written it yet, so I’ll be accepting pitches. We’re determined to do this.”

“It was a great joy and privilege, all kidding aside, to do a show that took risks and with such a wonderful cast and wonderful writers,” he continued. “For us, it’s irresistible. Here’s an interesting thing about it. When we did the show, one of the things that really made it work is that we didn’t hold ourselves up to any standard. We got a lot of positive critical recommendations, but we even kind of ignored those and just did what was funny to us, and kind of remained the underdog in a great way. It was very clear early on that we weren’t going to be a big hit, so it really was a labor of love. Now suddenly, there is a bar to hit. I think the key to this is once we get as many pieces as we’re going to, which appears we have, we’ll just dive in and have fun and see if we can create the same thing. But we’re excited about it.”

In fact, I really didn’t watch any television.

“You gotta watch it, it’s probably the funniest show I have ever seen.” he said. That stuck in my mind for a while. I always take recommendations from my best friends. My other friend told me to watch “Lost” and now I’m super addicted.

One lazy morning I was flipping through the channels and landed on G4. It turned out they were playing a marathon of Arrested Development and I was currently watching the first three minutes of the pilot. At that very moment I decided to watch and didn’t stop until they played through the entire first season. I was HOOKED!

Later that evening I went and bought all three seasons on DVD and did a mini marathon myself. Needless to say I got nothing else done.

I have since watched the entire series 5 times from beginning to end and have gotten 10 of my other friends addicted to it as well.

I invite you to share your Arrested Development discovery story with the world and sign the petition (If you haven’t already) to get this movie made. We deserve it.

While Cross, who played Tobias Funke on the former FOX series, admitted to not knowing much about the potential film production, he assured “Arrested” fans that things appeared to be headed in the right direction, the New York Post reported Sunday.

“I’ll tell you what I know, which is, I don’t know,” Cross told the Post. “But that’s better than what it was prior to the last four months, which was, It’s not gonna happen.”

Cross said “Arrested” creator Mitch Hurwitz had already contacted him about the possibility of revisiting his former TV role in a film version.

The comedian also spoke with the Post about his reported new show with Bob Odenkirk, with whom he created the TV comedy “Mr. Show.”

“Bob and I wrote some stuff, had a great time writing and shooting it and everybody was psyched,” said Cross, who added the editing process for the show was less than inspiring.

I was just in my bathroom and I was reading the latest issue of GQ that my friend subscribed me to (because he had a buy one get one free deal). While reading it I found this little blurb about the Arrested Development movie.

Arrested Development: The Movie is actually, well, possibly, okay, probably going to happen.
At this point, the big-screen version of the greatest work of popular art ever stomped in the ratings by King of Queens has been on and off more times than the Funke marriage. Jason Bateman said it was absolutely happening, then Michael Cera said it wasn’t, then Jeffrey Tambor said it was. Even Keith Olbermann (a die-hard fan and – let’s start this rumor right here – also a “never-nude”) begged for an end to the madness in one of those all-up-in-your-screen-like-Max-Headroom Special Comments. As of late November, creator Mitch Hurwitz and producer-narrator Ron Howard had both reportedly confirmed thier participation, which means this thing may actually happen. But we won’t pop the champagne until Carl Weathers announces he’s on board.

It increasingly seems that all parties are on track to make an “Arrested Development” movie – except perhaps for Michael Cera.

From Mitch Hurwitz, who is the creator and executive producer of the show, to narrator and producer Ron Howard and much of the cast, enthusiasm for the project is high.

In fact, “Juno” and “Superbad” actor Michael Cera, who played George Michael Bluth, appears to be the lone holdout.

Fancast scored an interview with Hurwitz, and he revealed the following:

So what of the rumors that new dad Will Arnett and shiny movie star Michael Cera are the only two remaining holdouts?

“I don’t want to talk about who is holding out right now because we might still work that out and I don’t want to pressure anyone through the press,” said Hurwitz. “Although I will say that Will Arnett is gung-ho, so there’s a big clue!”

More than a big clue, it’s the big Maebe resting in George Michael’s hands.

Movies based on TV shows have become commonplace but it’s extremely rare for a show’s original cast to make the transition. With that in mind, is it realistic to expect that movie plans won’t get derailed and that the Bluths will really return?

Arrested Development ran from November 2, 2003 to February 10, 2006 on the FOX network. The offbeat sitcom follows the dysfunctional Bluth family and features the talents of Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, John F. Beard, and Mae Whitman. Despite critical acclaim, the series never caught on with a big audience. Still, the show has been a big seller on DVD.

Now that the Arrested movie’s been given a greenlight, you’d think that series creator Mitch Hurwitz would be busy working on the script. Not so. Though he has lots of ideas, Hurwitz recently told Fancast that he won’t get started writing until the cast has signed on.

There have been rumors that one castmember has been a holdout. Both Arnett’s and Cera’s names have come up as possible culprits. Hurwitz says, “I don’t want to talk about who is holding out right now because we might still work that out and I don’t want to pressure anyone through the press… Although I will say that Will Arnett is gung-ho, so there’s a big clue!”

Though Hurwitz has yet to nail down the exact plot, he is willing to tease with a few of the storyline possibilities. “I think in some respect it would have to pick up where the show left off. Maybe the benefit of that would be, if nothing else, just to recap everything. There are a couple of ways to get into it. I was even thinking about a big animated sequence to start. Kind of like how the Blake Edwards movies used to start — to kind of catch everyone up.”

He also says that the movie could potentially be a movie within a movie. In the final episode, cousin Maeby Funke (Shawkat) pitched director Ron Howard the idea of dramatizing her life story as a TV show. Prophetically, Howard responded, “I don’t see it as a series. Maybe a movie.” Of course, fans of the show know that Howard is the series’ narrator and one of its executive producers. It’s likely that Howard will have a similar role for the big screen version.

Do you think Michael Cera will be in the movie?

Yes, of course.

I hope so but have doubts.

Nope, I don’t think so.

Another option could be to make the movie a prequel to the series. That would neccesitate younger characters being recast. Though that option could be a solution to Cera’s not taking part, the size of Shawkat’s role could be negatively affected.

On the positive side, a prequel could open the door to examine some storylines that fans have always wondered about, including the deceased wife of Michael Bluth (Bateman). The series creator says, “There were a couple of areas where I always sort of held back, where I always felt like if I needed to deal with at some point, I could. One of them is definitely that story [with Michael's wife], and who those people are, and what effect that has on this kid. I don’t know if we’d necessarily see her.”

Hurwitz maintains that if, for whatever reason, the movie plans get derailed, the show will go on. He says that his ideas for the Bluths could find a home online or via a direct-to-DVD release. He notes, “It’s too much fun for us all. The fans have been so supportive and so sincere in their fondness for it. That’s really the big motivation to make the film. It sounds kind of corny. It’s not like it’s going to pay very much! It’s a really low budget film and it’s going to be a ton of work, but it just kind of feels like… well, people are so great about responding to this.” Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page
